In sport, victories are only part of the story. The moments that truly define a champion are often the most difficult ones, reminding us that greatness is measured not only by medals and records, but by the way athletes respond when faced with adversity. That was exactly the kind of moment Paris Mitropoulos gave the world at this year’s IPL International Championship Powerlifting, held in Verona, Italy and broadcast live to audiences around the globe.

The Competition in Verona

The Greek powerlifting champion travelled to Bosco Chiesanuova with one goal in mind, to qualify for the 2026 Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas. After months of dedicated preparation and arriving in outstanding form, he was on course for another major achievement.

During his second squat attempt, however, the competition took an unexpected turn. Paris suffered a serious knee injury and received immediate medical attention before being taken to hospital by ambulance. Doctors diagnosed a ruptured quadriceps tendon, an injury that requires surgery and will keep him out of competition for at least six months, ending his bid to qualify for this year’s Mr. Olympia.

The Moment That Moved the Arena

Despite the severity of his injury and the pain he was experiencing, Paris returned to the competition venue to honour the event and show his respect for his fellow athletes. In a symbolic gesture that moved competitors and spectators from around the world, he performed a 50 kg lift on one leg, earning a prolonged standing ovation and the admiration of everyone in the arena.

The organisers presented the Greek champion with a commemorative medal in recognition of the courage and sportsmanship he demonstrated during one of the most challenging moments of his career.

Lithos Digital’s Steady Support for Paris

As Paris Mitropoulos’ Gold Sponsor and long-standing supporter, Lithos Digital was by his side throughout the event. The company’s CEO, Andreas Mexis, travelled to Italy to support him in person, reaffirming that backing an athlete means standing with them not only in moments of success, but even more so when they face life’s toughest challenges.

As Andreas Mexis stated: “To us, Paris is a champion regardless of the result. We’ll be right there beside him on his journey back.”

Paris’ road to Mr. Olympia may have been interrupted, but the message he left in Verona was more powerful than any medal. Because true champions are defined not only by the weight they lift or the records they break, but by the strength they show every time they rise again.
